NEED

In 2024, Human Scale was invited to participate in a spring class led by Segundo Ruiz Cultural Center in Hermosa. The purpose of the class was to introduce students to urban gardening, planting and design. Human Scale led the master planning of the alley along with the design build classes that culminated in the construction of a small structure in the side alley of the cultural center. The class also continued improving the alley by adding plants and furniture, Mena Arte assisted with the painting of the wall as well.

GOALS

  • Develop a design build class for the Spring 2024 Urban Gardening program at SRBCC to introduce at risk high school students to the fields of architecture and design, learn about public spaces and urban gardening.
  • Envision the possibilities for SRBCC’s private alleyway with the community
  • Design small scale elements that will be built during the program
